What is the PMP® Exam?

Project Management Professional (PMP®) is an internationally recognized professional designation offered by the Project Management Institute (PMI®). There are currently 773,840 active PMP® certified individuals and 286 chartered chapters across 210 countries and territories worldwide. The exam is based on the PMI® Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK®).

What is required to get PMP® certified?

The prerequisites are:

Secondary degree (high school diploma, associate’s degree or the global equivalent)

7,500 hours leading and directing projects

35 hours of project management education

OR

Four-year degree

4,500 hours leading and directing projects

35 hours of project management education

A candidate who passes the exam and meets the professional requirements is awarded the PMP® certification.

What are the educational requirements to be eligible for taking the PMP® Exam?

The candidate should have attended 35 hours of project management classroom training.

What are the experience requirements to be eligible for PMP® Exam?

Minimum of 4500 hours of project management experience covering the 5 process groups, if the candidate holds a 4 year degree or equivalent university degree at the time of the application.

Minimum of 7500 hours of project management experience covering the 5 process groups, if the candidate holds a high school diploma or equivalent secondary school credential at the time of the application.

How many questions are there and how much time do I have to complete the exam?

The exam has 200 multiple choice questions. Each question has exactly one correct answer. You will get 4 hours to answer these questions. There are 25 experimental pretest questions that are randomly placed throughout the exam to gather statistics on the performance of the questions in order to determine whether they will be used on future examinations. Candidates are scored on 175 questions.

How much does it cost to take the exam?

We highly recommend becoming a PMI® member prior to applying to take the exam. When you pay the annual fee of $129 to join PMI®, instead of paying $555 to take the PMP® exam, you will pay $405. The annual renewal fee thereafter is $119.

How do I apply to take the PMP® Exam?
